FAQ

Do you only coach artists and creative people?

Not at all! Everyone from all walks of life can benefit from art and creative life coaching. You do not need to have an art background to have a beneficial and transformative experience. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to experiment!

How is coaching different from counseling or therapy?

Coaching is a forward-looking, behavioral approach to enhancing your life based on self-awareness, self-regulation, and critical/creative thinking within a relationship of trust and respect. While the coaching I provide is therapeutic, it is not the same as psychological counseling or intensive therapy. Coaching is not designed to address the underlying psychological or medical issues of traumatic events. If these come up during coaching, I will recommend that these experiences be shared with a qualified therapist or medical professional.

Is art coaching the same as art therapy?

Therapeutic art and creative coaching is a niche practice within the field of coaching that borrows certain elements from art therapy. Typically, art therapy is administered by a licensed art therapist, whereas therapeutic art coaching is conducted by a life coach. Both modalities use art making, such as drawing, painting and sculpture, to explore the unconscious mind and to promote personal meaning, facilitate journeying and explore your creative side.

How long do people generally work with an art and creative life coach?

Everyone’s needs are different. Most people choose either weekly, biweekly, or monthly sessions depending on their personal situation and life circumstances. Many people start out weekly and move to monthly as they evolve and expand. It is ultimately your decision how often we meet. Most clients indicate that lasting change can occur after about three months.

Do I need art supplies?

Although you do not need any special art supplies, you will need some basic items to jumpstart your creativity. You may find that you already have many of these items, such as pencils and writing paper, already to hand. Your first purchase of a multi-session bundle will entitle you to a FREE art supply kit shipped directly to you.

How do we meet?

I meet with clients a variety of ways: in person or video sessions via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp or Facebook. CURRENTLY, DUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING AND LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS, ALL SESSIONS ARE CONDUCTED OVER VIDEO. THERE ARE NO IN-PERSON MEETINGS AT THIS TIME.

Will Insurance cover art and creative life coaching?

Freedom Art and Creative Life Coaching is a “private pay” professional service, which means I do not work with managed care or insurance companies directly. Insurance companies require diagnosis and, as an art and creative life coach, I do not diagnose medical or mental health issues. You pay my fee similarly to how you might pay an attorney, accountant, mechanic, or hairdresser. I can provide you with a receipt for services, which you may be able to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You might also check with your employer about Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). It is your responsibility to pursue any benefits available to you with your insurance company, workplace, etc.
